In Our Baby Room
Baby Bears (0-2 years)
Our baby room is a haven carefully designed for children from as young as 3 months. At Chairbears, we believe that the journey of your child’s development begins right here, and it’s a journey we take very seriously.
Every member of our Baby Bears team is handpicked for their professionalism, compassion, and unwavering dedication to childcare. It is paramount to us that they not only possess maternal instincts but also radiate a calm, caring personality. With each member holding pediatric first aid certification, we are confident in their ability to provide exceptional care to our youngest charges.
Our Baby Bears team is privileged to lay the foundations for the future developmental milestones of your little ones. They join your children and you on the incredible journey as they begin to sit up, crawl, and take their first steps. Each child receives individualised planning, ensuring that their unique needs are met.

As your children grow, their key workers consistently plan activities that align with their developmental requirements, offering more challenging tasks and fostering independence.
Our baby room features an open-plan layout, where all areas are freely accessible. This allows the babies to move around and explore different environments with ease. Every corner is a sensory delight, designed to stimulate their senses with varied textures, sounds, and colors.
We believe in providing a rich sensory experience for babies, and one concept that has inspired our approach is the Treasure Basket. Introduced by Elinor Goldschmied, it stands in stark contrast to the trend of commercial plastic toys for babies. Elinor believed that plastic offered little sensory stimulation, while natural objects possess a wide variety of sensory properties. The Treasure Basket encourages exploration and learning, allowing children to discover and experience the world around them in a hands-on way.
Why we refrain from using baby bouncers...?
Why don’t we use baby gyms, bumbo seats, or baby walkers at Chairbears? We focus on recognizing the innate curiosity and natural unfolding of children. We believe in letting children explore, learn, and take in their surroundings each day.
We understand that in today’s world, there is a constant drive to have children develop quickly, but we believe in taking a step back. As parents and caregivers, we all want the best for our little ones, but it’s essential to remember that
Children accomplish milestones in their way and in their time” (Magda Gerber). We must respect and trust that babies know what’s best for their development.
Babies are extraordinary explorers, curious about the world around them, and we don’t believe they need electronic gadgets or academic toys. They need opportunities to stretch, develop coordination, and be active explorers. Our approach is inspired by the work of Emmi Pikler and Magda Gerber, focusing on where children are today, not where we want them to be tomorrow.
At Chairbears, just like the teachings from the Curiosity Approach, we aim to provide a nurturing environment that allows your baby to be a “busy baby” rather than relying on “busy toys.” We keep our toys simple, encouraging imaginative exploration and multiple uses. Our focus is on the natural unfolding development of babies, respecting their unique journey.

Creating a Safe Sleep Environment for Babies in Nursery
The environment is the third teacher
At Chairbears Day Nursery, the well-being and safety of every child in our care are of paramount importance, and this extends to ensuring a secure, nurturing environment for their sleep. We understand that a well-rested baby is a happy and healthy one. Here’s how we provide a safe sleep environment and support individual sleep routines:
Safe Sleep Practices at Chairbears Day Nursery: Foot-to-Feet Positioning
At Chairbears Day Nursery, we prioritize your child’s safety by adhering to the safe sleep guidelines, including the foot-to-feet positioning. This practice ensures that babies sleep on their backs with their feet touching the bottom of the crib, reducing any risks and promoting a secure sleep environment.
Optimal Sleep Temperature and Ventilation
Maintaining the proper temperature and ventilation in our sleep rooms is crucial for your child’s comfort and safety. We carefully monitor room conditions to ensure they are neither too hot nor too cold, providing a cozy and breathable space for restful sleep.
Personalised Sleep Routines for Comfort
At Chairbears, we understand the importance of maintaining your child’s familiar sleep routines. We work closely with parents to replicate home sleep patterns as much as possible, ensuring a comforting and consistent experience that helps your child feel secure and relaxed.
Continuous Supervision and Safety Checks
Your child’s well-being is our top priority, and we maintain continuous supervision during nap times. We conduct recorded checks every 5-10 minutes in our separate sleep room which is directly connected to the baby room. Older children sleep on mats in one base room with staff always in attendance, ensuring they are never left unsupervised or monitored by baby monitors.
Proper Temperature and Ventilation:
We maintain an optimal room temperature to ensure babies are neither too hot nor too cold. Adequate ventilation and fresh air circulation are also a priority.
Comfortable and Clean Sleep Areas
Our nursery provides individual cribs and sleep mats, with sheets and blankets that are washed daily. We create a beautiful sleep environment with low lighting and soothing white noise, offering a peaceful and comfortable space for your child to rest and recharge.
Comforting Routines:
Before sleep, we engage in comforting routines that help babies transition into naptime. This might include soft lullabies, gentle rocking, or reading a calming story.
Communication with Parents:
We maintain open lines of communication with parents, sharing daily sleep updates and any changes in their baby’s sleep patterns. This ensures a collaborative approach to sleep management.
Specialised Training for Safe Sleep Practices
Our team receives individualized training tailored to working with children under two, including pediatric first aid and safe sleep practices. This specialized training equips our educators with the knowledge and skills to provide the highest level of care and safety for your little ones during their crucial early years.
Teddy Bears (2-3 years)
At Chairbears Day Nursery, we have created two uniquely designed rooms dedicated to our beloved bear cubs aged between 2 and 3. These early years are a time of tremendous growth and exploration, and we are here to support and nurture your child every step of the way.
Our fantastic teams work hand in hand with parents to provide a holistic learning experience, emphasizing the development of skills across the seven areas of learning. For our little ones under three, we particularly focus on the Prime areas of learning, which form the foundation for all other learning. These areas include learning about ourselves, being with others, learning to communicate, and the exciting milestones of toddling and bopping. Keeping active and engaged in these prime areas is crucial for your child’s overall development.
Our rooms are filled with the joy of shared stories, meals, and games, all of which support your child’s growing skills. We also recognize the importance of interaction with older children, as it allows our bear cubs to learn from peers who have a greater understanding and knowledge. This shared experience fosters a sense of curiosity and learning that extends beyond the classroom.
Independence and behavior management are key aspects of our focus as well. As your child reaches the age when toilet training becomes a milestone, they embark on the journey of self-service. They learn to put on their own shoes and coats, eagerly develop their personal, social, and emotional skills, and take significant strides towards becoming more self-reliant.
We understand the importance of these formative years and the incredible growth that occurs during this stage of childhood. At Chairbears, we are dedicated to providing a nurturing and supportive environment that encourages your child to flourish, learn, and grow. Our goal is to help them become confident, independent, and eager learners, setting a strong foundation for a lifetime of discovery.

Potty training
Potty Training at Chairbears Day Nursery
At Chairbears Day Nursery, we believe that potty training is a unique journey for each child, and we follow their lead to ensure a positive and stress-free experience. Our key workers collaborate closely with families to support the child when both the child and parents are ready to begin this important developmental milestone.
Collaborative and Child-Led Approach
We understand that every child develops at their own pace, and we always wait for signs of readiness before starting potty training. Our team will address any interest your child shows at nursery and communicate with you if your child expresses interest at home. Together, we create a supportive environment tailored to your child’s individual needs and readiness.
Child-Friendly Facilities
Chairbears Day Nursery is equipped with potties and child-height toilets to accommodate our young learners comfortably. We believe in allowing children to experience the natural sensation of being wet, which helps them understand and recognize the signals their body is giving them. While we prefer to change wet trousers and clothes over using pull-ups, we are committed to supporting your preferences and ensuring consistency between home and nursery.
Consistency and Positive Reinforcement
Consistency is key to successful potty training, both at home and at nursery. Our nurturing approach focuses on the developmental readiness of each child, reinforcing positive behaviors and ensuring that they feel confident and secure throughout the process. We avoid the use of sticker or reward systems because we believe that intrinsic motivation and a positive, supportive environment lead to more meaningful and lasting results.
Why We Don’t Use Sticker or Reward Systems
At Chairbears, we do not support the use of sticker or reward systems for potty training. Research indicates that external rewards can sometimes create pressure and anxiety, detracting from the child’s natural learning process. Our approach emphasizes the importance of celebrating progress and milestones in a way that fosters self-confidence and a genuine sense of achievement.
By working together with families and respecting each child’s individual journey, we strive to make potty training a positive and empowering experience for your little one.

Big Bears (2.5-5years)
Preparing for the Future with a Playful Approach
In our Preschool Room at Chairbears Day Nursery, we provide a structured learning environment that acts as a bridge to school readiness. However, our approach is anything but academic. We believe in fostering a genuine love for learning through a child’s play and a natural interest in early literacy and math.
Our dedicated team creates an atmosphere where children’s curiosity is embraced, and their exploration is encouraged. We infuse the environment with opportunities for learning, integrating early literacy and math into play. We never apply pressure through questions or formal assessments. Instead, we allow children to take the lead in their learning journey.
Our approach is to play alongside an engaged child, not interrupting their play. This means that as your child explores and interacts with their surroundings, our practitioners are there to support and enhance their learning, rather than imposing a rigid structure. This allows for a more organic and enjoyable learning experience.
At Chairbears, we believe that true learning is born from a child’s natural inquisitiveness and their passion for exploration. By fostering a love for learning from within, we empower our preschoolers with a strong foundation for future education.

Preparing Preschoolers for School: A Balanced Approach at Chairbears Day Nursery
At Chairbears Day Nursery, we take a holistic approach to preparing preschool-aged children for a successful transition to school. Our philosophy combines structured learning environments with the flexibility of child-led play, fostering a genuine love for learning and supporting every aspect of a child’s development.
Balanced Learning Environment
We provide a structured learning environment where children engage in guided activities that introduce essential academic concepts in literacy, numeracy, and science. This structured approach ensures children develop a strong foundation for future learning while still allowing them the freedom to explore and discover through play.
Nurturing a Love for Learning
We believe that the best way to inspire a lifelong passion for learning is by encouraging children to follow their natural interests and curiosity. At Chairbears, we integrate child-led play into our daily routine, allowing children to explore, experiment, and learn at their own pace. This approach helps them develop a genuine enthusiasm for knowledge and discovery.
Holistic Development
Our focus on holistic development means we support not just the academic, but also the social, emotional, and physical growth of each child. Through a variety of engaging activities and experiences, we ensure that children are well-rounded and ready to thrive in a school setting. Social skills are nurtured through group interactions, emotional resilience is built through supportive relationships, and physical development is encouraged through active play.
Social and Emotional Preparedness
Building strong social and emotional skills is crucial for school readiness. We encourage positive interactions, teamwork, and problem-solving among our preschoolers, helping them develop empathy, resilience, and confidence. Through group activities and individual support, we prepare children to navigate social dynamics and adapt to new environments.
Family Involvement
We recognize that the transition to school is a significant milestone for both children and their families. We work closely with parents to keep them involved and informed about their child’s progress and readiness for school. This partnership ensures that the transition is smooth and that the child feels confident and prepared for the next step in their educational journey.
At Chairbears Day Nursery, our balanced approach to learning and development helps each child become school-ready while fostering a genuine love for learning that will support them throughout their lives.
